EL DÍA DE REYES {THE EPIPHANY}

Okay, finally the Three King´s day is here, and then Christmas will be over. We celebrate de Epyphany on the 6th of January, the magic night is the night before. It is a public holiday in many countries and commemorates the visit of the three Kings to Jesus when he was born. For us, this is the day when we give our children the presents and not Santa Claus. Our children write letters to the three kings telling them how good they have been and then, on the 5th they come over and leave the presents. The Kings are rewarded with some sherry and cookies.
Obviously this was much more fun when my children were little, oh God the anxiety they suffered when they had to go to sleep, they used to get up and go to the toilet at least six times. We wanted to leave the presents and it was impossible!!.

The event actually starts on the 5th. We used to go early in the morning to the  station. The Kings arrive (they still do) early in the morning, so there I was with my own children and my nieces and nephew, waiting for the Kings to arrive, to give them their letters, say hello and went to have breakfast together.

Ainhoa is my sister´s daughter. Oh my, you should have seen her face at that moment!!!.

She was a chatterbox, wow, she couldn´t stop!!!, and of course, when I was at the station with them she was talking and talking.

And the Kings arrived and they all got nervous, hands shaking, but this was the moment when my niece kept quiet, weird eh?. Oh God, Ainhoa thinking, what a danger!.

When she was asking me, her nervousness showed in her voice.

Our conversation was as follows, while we were waving to the Kings.
*Auntie, do you think this King is the same as last years?
(You should have seen the atonishment in my face!!)
*Auntie, do you think the Kings wear dirty shoes?..(Come on now, who cares about the kings ´shoes??)
(You should have seen the atonishment in my face!!, I can´t believe this is happening to me!!!)
Ainhoa love, please say hi to the Kings, wave to them!!!, call your favourite one!.
*Auntie, I think that he´s wearing a fake crown.
(Oh nooooo, this can´t be true, children around her start to stare at her)
*Auntie?, look, their jewlery moves a lot, not heavy, that´s not gold for sure!!.
(Come on guys, let´s go to have some breakfast or I´ll faint).....

And after lunch, we had to queue, the Kings still talk to the children in the Cathedral, so if you want to see them and give them a personal message, you had to queue for 1 hour and a half. They used to sit on a bench while we queued.

Finally, they made their way to the Kings. My son was always upset and bored, by the time they met them, he was so pissed off he didn´t want to talk to them.

Probably, the same way we did.

What about Ainhoa now after all these years?. She is my future favourite physiotherapist of all times, no doubt.

Si me apetece un masaje, ya se a donde voy a ir. No importa si me habla mucho.

If I want to treat myself with a massage, I´ll call her. I won´t care if she can´t stop talking then.

Even though sometimes I think she´s going to end up in a group of rock.

For my darling niece. Happy Kings ´day. She already knows I´m dedicating this post to her and she´s dying to read it.

¡LISTO!
