CUADERNO DE VIAJE JAISALMER,JODHPUR {T. NOTEBOOK JAISALMER,JODHPUR}

3 Nov 2010
  1. We left Jaisalmer in the morning and again by road towards Jodhpur. We stopped in the middle at the boarding school where Gajendra, our guide, studied from 3 to 17 years old to go to University after and graduated in Geography and History. The boarding school was closed because we´re in the middle of Diwali. I can´t imagine what it was for the parents, to leave their children here at 3 years old, but I suppose that was the way to educate them and was the right thing to do. Now he earns a living and 7 people depend on him because things in his village weren´t well due to the rains. They always have to be looking at the sky to see if it rains well or not. At the moment he can support his family, which is enough.
  1. We stopped somewhere and I tried my first chai. They drink litres and litres of chai per day. It´s an unique infusion and I must say addictive. You boil the tea leaves in milk instead than in water and you have to leave them resting there for a long time and then tones of sugar are added. Not only helps you to recover but also helps you to fight against heat. It´s creamy and believe me, you´re grateful when they offer it to you. If you add some ginger and cardamom, the drink turns into something new and exotic. Many people warned me not to drink that if they offered it to me along the road, but once you drink one you´re lost. My water was completely hot inside my bag and you can´t drink refreshments because you have to be careful with the ice they put inside the drinks, so I´ve drunk litres of chai during this trip and here I am, safe and healthy.
  1. We´re getting used to this so noisy roads, I need more eyes to see everything, I don´t want to miss a thing.
  1. Finally we arrived in Jodhpur, do you need a word to describe it, well, it would be caotic!.

  1. We had lunch in a very pleasant restaurant, we sat in the shade of the trees because that day was really hot. Once again, Hindi recipes were our option, some croquettes made with lentils, and some lamb meat marinated in lemon and yogurt which were really good, well to tell you the truth this wasn´t the best lamb I´ve eaten in my life but we were hungry and it wasn´t bad.

  1. I tasted my first Lassi and I must tell you I become addict the very first moment I swallowed it, even our guide told me I was the first spanish travelling with him who literally ate everything I was offered in the streets, well, people was so kind to me that I couldn´t say no.

Impresionante.
  1. Lassi is a drink typical from India. People drink it really cold, and it´s made from yogurt (I´m a yogurt freak) and it´s really refreshing. Actually it´s a yogurt shake, with or without sugar, and you can find them savoury too, and those have pepper. Yogurts are home made in India, I mean those you´re offered in the street or when you stop by the road, thus much more liquid than the ones you can buy in any shop, I loved it, it was like drinking a yogurt milkshake all the time. I was warned to be careful with all the drinks made with milk, but well really, I couldn´t say no to a really cold glass full of yogurt. In the afternoon we did our shopping. Everybody was buying compulsively for Diwali and it was fun to be in the middle of the crowded street. Amazing.

  1. I ask myself many times how we were able to cross that road in the middle of the city.
